What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud Computing is a set of IT/Business application services that companies provide for a payper use or rental basis. Storage, servers, and applications also fall in this realm of Cloud
Computing and are available on‐demand basis. Therefore procuring hardware, software and
applications can just be done in hours unlike the traditional ways of establishing data centers
before one could focus on building/delivering the business solutions. These services are highly
Scalable and Elastic, so it can adapt to the growing needs of a business.
Cloud Computing eliminates the need for costly data centers and management, as the Cloud
vendor provide, manage and monitor the health and availability of the infrastructure.
What’s in Cloud Computing?
A Cloud can be made up of resizable compute capacity allowing one to procure hardware, software and storage capacity on‐demand as a service. Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Simple Storage Service (S3) are the classic example of this model.
Another form of Cloud computing can be made up of a platform and solutions stack delivered as a service generally referred as PaaS (Platform‐as‐a‐Service). PaaS allows for quick development and deployment applications. Google’s PaaS is a classic example of this model. On‐demand software delivered as a service generally referred as SaaS (Software‐as‐a‐Service) are the base for Cloud Apps. SaaS is a model of software deployment whereby a provider
licenses an application to customers for use as a service on demand. SaaS software vendors may host the application on their own web servers or download the application to the consumer device, disabling it after use or after the on‐demand contract expires. Salesforce.com SaaS is a classic example of this model.
